Dear students, colleagues and alumni,

Last weekend, the tragic death of one of our PG students Mr Ge Wei Wei shocked all of us. As we grieve the loss of Wei Wei who came from a poor rural family, with the assistance of various parties, the University is launching a donation campaign to help Wei Wei’s family. Donation accounts have been set up for this purpose. These accounts have been
activated now and will close on Wednesday 21 November 2007.

If you wish to help the bereaved family, please note the following channels you can send your donation to. Please note that you may claim tax deduction if your donation exceeds $100. You will need an official receipt for tax deduction purpose.

1. Cash

Please visit the counter of the Finance Office (Rm 5414 on 5/F, taking Lifts 17-18) in person and give your donation to the counter staff during office hours (9 am - 12:45 pm and 2 pm - 5:15 pm Mon to Fri). An official receipt will be issued on the spot.

2. Cheque

Your cheque should be made payable to ‘The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology’. On the back of the cheque, please write the following, ‘Donation for the family of Ge Wei Wei’. Please also put your name, address and telephone number on the back of the cheque so that an official receipt can be sent to you by either internal mail or by post. You can hand in the cheque in person at the FO counter mentioned in the preceding paragraph. Please note the opening hours of the counter. If you leave your cheque at the FO counter, an official receipt will be issued on the spot.

3. Donation deposited with special bank accounts set up

Three savings accounts opened exclusively for collecting donations for Wei Wei’s family have been arranged. The account numbers are as follows:

Please send or fax to T&C Unit, Finance Office, a copy of the transaction receipt together with your name, address, and telephone number on the receipt copy so that FO can issue you an official receipt. Please write on the receipt copy ‘Donation for the family of Ge Wei Wei’ in addition to your contact details. The fax number of FO is
2358-2426. An official receipt will be sent to the donor within 5 working days.
